PhexPak 900 kW — Heating duty — gasketed plate heat exchanger built to Central heating / LTHW duty

What the UKGP-PHE-CH-09 plate heat exchanger does

The UKGP-PHE-CH-09 is a gasketed plate-and-frame heat exchanger built to the Central heating / LTHW duty shown, with 316L stainless plates and clip-on EPDM gaskets. Plate heat exchangers move heat between two fluids without mixing them — typically used to indirectly heat DHW from a boiler primary, to hydraulically separate a low-temperature heat pump from a high-temperature radiator circuit, or to interface a district heating supply with a building-side circuit. The brazed and welded variants of the same range cover refrigerant and steam duty where gaskets cannot be used.

900 kW duty selection and ΔT sizing

This unit is selected at the conditions printed on the specification panel — primary 95°C in, secondary 70 → 85°C (ΔT 15K), 900 kW of heat transfer. Plate exchangers are extremely sensitive to ΔT: drop the primary inlet by 5 K and you lose 15–20 % of nameplate duty. Always confirm the actual ΔT available at the boiler / heat pump under part-load conditions before selecting a model, and oversize by 10 % for fouling allowance on hard-water DHW duty. For non-standard duties, send us the four temperatures and two flow rates and our engineers will run an Alfa Laval CAS sizing inside one working day.

Plate material, gaskets and chemical compatibility

316L stainless plates are correct for potable hot water, treated LTHW, chilled water with glycol and most closed-loop heat-pump duties. Titanium plates are required for seawater, swimming-pool heat recovery and any chloride-rich open loop. EPDM clip-on gaskets are correct for water up to 130 °C; NBR is correct for oil duty; FKM (Viton) is correct for high-temperature condensate. The clip-on gasket design means a plate pack can be opened, cleaned and re-assembled by a single technician without glue or curing time — important for fast turn-around on planned-preventative maintenance.

Installation, isolation and CIP

Install the UKGP-PHE-CH-09 vertically on a steel skid with full-bore isolating valves on both sides so the unit can be taken off-line for clean-in-place (CIP) descale without dropping system pressure. Fit pressure gauges and thermometers on all four ports so duty can be verified at site. Provide a drain valve at the lowest connection and a vent at the highest. For DHW duty, keep the primary side flow always at or above the design figure to prevent the secondary side flashing to steam during a step demand.

Spares: plates, gaskets and frame parts

Every ${v.code} ${v.size} plate heat exchanger is built from the standard UKGP plate family, so a full set of replacement 316L plates and EPDM gasket kits is stocked in the UK and ships next working day. We hold tightening bolts, end plates and pressure-port assemblies for the entire range, and offer an exchange-frame service for units beyond economic repair. Quote the ${v.code} part number when ordering spares and our team will match the correct plate count and gasket profile without site measurement.
