DN65 (2½") air and dirt separator — deaeration and sludge removal in one vessel
What the UKGP-ADS-04 DN65 (2½") air and dirt separator does
The UKGP-ADS-04 is a combined air and dirt separator — a single vessel that performs both microbubble deaeration and magnetite separation on closed heating or chilled-water circuits. Dissolved gas comes out of solution as flow velocity drops across the coalescing element, collects as a head of air at the top of the vessel and is vented through the automatic air vent. Heavier-than-water debris — magnetite (Fe₃O₄), commissioning swarf, jointing compound — falls into the calmed zone at the base and is removed through the drain ball valve during routine service.
Sizing the DN65 (2½") air & dirt separator
Size on system flow rate, not on pipe size. The UKGP-ADS-04 is rated for the flow band shown on the specification table at a 0.1 m/s internal velocity — the threshold below which entrained air bubbles cannot be re-drawn back into the moving stream and below which magnetite reliably falls out of suspension. Where the actual system flow exceeds the rated band, step up to the next DN; oversizing is far cheaper than the call-out to remove air locks and pump cavitation on a commissioned system.
Coalescing media and magnetic option
The standard DN65 (2½") air and dirt separator uses a 316 stainless-steel mesh coalescing brush — the same media specified by Spirotech and Flamco. For systems with cast-iron boilers, steel radiators or anywhere magnetite is the dominant contaminant, specify the magnetic insert: a removable rare-earth magnetic rod that locks onto ferrous particles below 5 microns and is wiped clean during the same routine drain-down. The magnetic option is the single biggest improvement you can make to circulator life on a refurb job.
Installation: vertical or horizontal mains
Mount the UKGP-ADS-04 on the boiler-return main, between the boiler and the low loss header, with 5 × DN of straight pipe upstream so flow into the vessel is laminar. Vertical and horizontal installation are both supported; on horizontal mains rotate the vessel so the air vent points up and the drain valve points down. Provide isolating valves either side so the vessel can be drained without taking the heating system off-line. The 10 barg @ 110 °C rating covers all standard LTHW, MTHW and chilled water duties.
Related products in the plant-room set
Most plant rooms specifying a combined air and dirt separator also fit a low loss header (for hydraulic separation), a chemical dosing pot (for inhibitor and biocide) and, on larger systems, a side stream filtration skid (for continuous removal of fine magnetite). Bundling these together at quote stage cuts engineering hours and means a single delivery, single set of paperwork and one warranty contact.
