2" gas solenoid valve — automatic gas shut-off to EN 161
What the UKGP-GSV-05 gas solenoid valve does
The UKGP-GSV-05 is a 2" normally-closed gas solenoid valve designed for automatic gas shut-off on natural gas, LPG, town gas and inert gas systems. The valve closes on loss of power, so any interruption to the 230 V AC coil signal — fault, fire alarm, manual emergency stop or gas-detection alarm — immediately isolates the gas supply. The body and trim conform to EN 161 (Class A, Group 2) and the valve is CE marked for installation across the UK and Europe.
Sizing the 2" valve and pressure drop
Size on rated gas flow at the inlet pressure of your meter governor — most UK commercial kitchens and boiler rooms are 21 mbar (natural gas) or 37 mbar (LPG). The 2" body is the correct match for the burner train pipe size shown on the spec table at the standard 1.5 mbar pressure drop. Oversizing the valve is acceptable; undersizing causes burners to short-cycle as the upstream pressure collapses during peak demand. Maximum working pressure is 500 mbar — covering all low-pressure commercial gas applications without specifying medium-pressure equipment.
Auto-reset operation — every variant re-opens on power restore
Every gas solenoid valve we supply, including the UKGP-GSV-05, is an auto-reset (electric-reset) valve. The valve closes the moment 230 V AC is interrupted — fault, fire alarm, emergency stop or a high-gas signal from the detection panel — and re-opens automatically as soon as the coil is re-energised. That makes the range ideal for unmanned boiler rooms running on a fail-safe gas-detection interlock: once the detector clears and the BMS reinstates the permissive, gas is restored without anyone visiting site. If your installation requires a physical button push to reinstate gas (some kitchen or fire-alarm interlocks), interlock the coil supply through a latching relay that an engineer must manually reset — the valve itself does not need to change.
Installation, gas-detection interlocks and wiring
Install the UKGP-GSV-05 downstream of the meter governor, upstream of the appliance isolation valve, in a horizontal line with the coil on top. Allow 6 × DN of straight pipe upstream so flow into the valve is laminar. Wire the 230 V AC coil in series with the volt-free output of the gas-detection panel (Crowcon, Honeywell, MSA or equivalent) and the emergency-stop loop. Always fit a downstream test point so the engineer can verify zero gas pressure after the valve closes — required for periodic CP44 / BS 6173 testing of catering installations.
Standards: EN 161, BS 6173 and Gas Safe
The valve carries CE marking under EN 161 (automatic shut-off valves for gas burners and gas appliances). Installation must be carried out by a Gas Safe registered engineer working to BS 6173 (commercial catering) or BS 6644 (commercial boilers >70 kW). A signed commissioning certificate is supplied with every valve so the installer can hand over a documented gas safety chain for building control sign-off.
